What is Menopause?
Menopause is a decline of sex hormone production. The menstrual cycle stops due to the levels of estrogen and progesterone dropping rapidly. A woman usually starts menopause around ages 45-55, and has reached menopause when she hasn't had a period for 12 months in a row.
There are two main sex hormones involved with menopause. Estrogen, sometimes called the "Marilyn Monroe Hormone," usually helps the female body maintain high energy levels, sharp memory, clear mind, youthful skin and strong bones. It fights low energy, insomnia, vaginal dryness, mood swings, hot flashes, night sweats, low libido and osteoporosis. Losing it can be detrimental to the mind and body. Progesterone can affect mood swings, weight and insomnia, as well breast cysts. These two sex hormones are vital to the female body. That's why when menopause hits, the body has a very hard time leveling back out.
The cause of menopause is not exactly known scientifically. When animals in the wild are studied, they don't have documented menopause. Only when in captivity does menopause occur with mammals. That's why Dr. Kalitenko believes that life doesn't have to end when this (potentially unnatural) phenomenon happens. We might give you the support you need to combat it!
What are Bioidentical Hormones?
Bioidentical hormones are hormones that are chemically identical to our own. To support patients with menopause, those hormones are put into a treatment plan called Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). BHRT replaces what a woman loses during menopause.
Think of BHRT like driving from New York City to San Francisco. You have a full tank to start out with. But already in 6 hours, the gas is running out. You have days to travel yet! With menopause, there are no more hormones made; you've run out. However, you're not at the end of the road, and you don't need to cancel the trip. The thing you need to do is to find the nearest gas station and fill up with some gas. The trick is to get the right gas--not diesel, which will ruin your car!
Symptoms of Menopause
Menopause can cause a number of uncomfortable, unpleasant symptoms:
- Hormonal imbalances and crashes
- Mood swings
- Hot flashes
- Night sweats
- Vaginal dryness
- Lack of libido
- Memory lapses
- Weight gain
- Frail bones
Menopause can also create many serious, deadly symptoms. Women with untreated menopause could be prone to osteoporosis, memory decline, heart disease, Alzheimer's and more. Even osteoporosis could kill because of hip fracture complications.
Solutions for Menopause
Because menopause is caused by a lack of sex hormones, the simplest and most efficient way to counteract it is to replace those hormones. That is what we do. Dr. Kalitenko also offers nutritional planning to naturally enhance metabolism and battle issues like weight gain and insomnia. All treatments are customized to the individual patient, to ensure quality results.
When To Address Menopause
It is urgent to address menopausal issues as soon as possible. Postmenopausal women are at a much higher risk for many serious health issues and diseases, including coronary heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, osteoporosis, colon cancer and breast cancer. These health issues can be deadly?dementia is irreversible; heart disease and cancer may not be cured; a broken hip can mean the end of a pain-free life.
But as long as you maintain a regular level of estrogen, you will be more protected from these life-threatening ailments. For the most part, the problems kick in when the hormones start declining. Restoring your hormones may mean restoring your life. Make an appointment today to find out how you can get support to achieve an optimal state of your health that potentially could save your own life.
