Does it matter when you sleep, if you get your required eight hours of sleep? What about people who work at night? Do they function as well as people who work during the day and sleep at night? I don’t think so. Nature intended us to rise and go to sleep with the sun. We are supposed to use the night hours for relaxation. But for many people society dictates different lifestyle. Many careers, from bus drivers to doctors, can require that you get your zzzzz’s when most of us aren’t sleeping. But, it also means that you are not at your peak health or performance when this happens. The truth is that we need to sleep at night in order to be healthy, wealthy and wise. So, the question is how to get a good night’s sleep and how it affects your health?
I have always stressed the importance of a good night?s sleep, and how crucial it is to have no distractions. You need to make sure you are comfortable, in complete darkness and free from any distraction in order to guarantee that you enter and complete each cycle of sleep successfully. Even a snoring spouse can lead to disaster. We have all been there. Perhaps, events of the day keep your mind racing, something you ate is making you bloated or uncomfortable, maybe a light is coming in. Even getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, and turning on the light puts your body into chaos. Light makes your body feel that you are awake and it begins a process of rising. Trying to go back to a restful sleep afterwards can be impossible. Our energy is naturally low at night and this is the best time to sleep. When we mess with it, we are in trouble.
Here are some practical tips on getting a good night?s sleep. Try to apply them for just a week or two and see the difference in your energy, your life and how you handle everything else throughout your day. You will feel like a different person.
Go to sleep at sundown, and wake up at sunrise
Have no noise at all in your bedroom
No artificial light, not even an alarm clock
Turn off fuses if possible.
Do not eat right before bed
Take a warm bath to relax your body
